Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau have confirmed their relationship after the singer shared photographs and videos of the pair during a trip to Japan.
The Instagram post, published on Saturday to Perry’s account, which has more than 200 million followers, included a selfie of the couple smiling cheek to cheek and a video of them eating sushi. The carousel of images was captioned “Tokyo Times on tour and more”, accompanied by emojis including a red heart, appearing to confirm months of speculation about a romance between the pop star and Canada’s former prime minister.
The announcement followed a post by Trudeau on X two days earlier, in which he shared a photograph of himself and Perry with Japan’s former Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, and his wife, Yuko. “Great to see you @kishida230. Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko,” Trudeau wrote.
Fans reacted with enthusiasm to Perry’s Instagram post. One commented: “OH CANADA!!! MAKING IT OFFICIAL!!!” Another wrote: “Your happiness is our happiness. All the love to you!” The confirmation comes after months of public interest in the pair, who have been seen together on several occasions.
In July, Perry and Trudeau were spotted dining together in Montreal, before Trudeau attended one of Perry’s concerts and was filmed singing along to her hit Firework. Their first public appearance as a couple came in October, when they were photographed holding hands after attending a cabaret show in Paris to celebrate Perry’s 41st birthday.
Neither Perry nor Trudeau has spoken directly about their relationship, but the social media posts mark the first time they have publicly acknowledged it.
Trudeau served as Canada’s prime minister from 2015 until his resignation earlier this year, stepping down as leader of the Liberal Party after a decade in office. His departure ended a political career that saw him win three elections and play a prominent role on the international stage.
Perry, meanwhile, is one of the world’s most successful pop artists. A 13‑time nominee, she has released seven studio albums and achieved global success with singles including California Gurls, Hot n Cold and Roar.
The confirmation of their relationship has drawn widespread attention, combining the worlds of politics and entertainment in a pairing that has already captured the imagination of fans across the globe.
