Popular Nigerian comedian and skit maker, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, widely known as Sabinus, has called on the Federal Government and security agencies to urgently intervene in the wave of killings sweeping across parts of Benue State.
The comic star expressed deep concern over what he described as the “unending and senseless” attacks reportedly carried out by suspected herdsmen militia.
In a passionate video shared online, Sabinus, flanked by members of his content team, made a direct appeal to the authorities to step in before the crisis spreads to other regions.
“Every life matters”
Sabinus emphasised that the lives of ordinary citizens in Benue State must be protected. He noted that Nigerians, regardless of location, deserve to feel safe in their homes and communities.
“We are begging the government and the security agencies to look into what is happening in Benue State,” he said in the video. “Every life matters. These killings must stop. People are dying for no reason.”
The comedian, known for his humorous online skits, took a serious tone as he addressed the situation. His concern, he said, goes beyond entertainment, it’s about humanity.
Warning of escalation
He further warned that if the violence continues unchecked, it may not be long before other parts of the country begin to experience similar attacks. According to him, insecurity anywhere in Nigeria is a threat to peace everywhere in the country.
“We’ve been hearing about the killings, but it’s now getting out of hand,” Sabinus said. “This thing can spread. Nobody knows where it will happen next. We could be the next victims. That’s why I’m speaking out.”
He stressed that the government must act fast, adding that the silence or delay in responding to the crisis could embolden more violence.
Call for urgent government action
Sabinus appealed directly to both the federal authorities and security outfits like the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, and Department of State Services to take immediate steps to protect residents of Benue.
“Please, government, intervene,” he said. “Go and help the people in Benue. They need urgent help. This situation has gone beyond what they can handle on their own.”
He added that leadership is not only about policies and politics but also about protecting lives. He urged leaders to show compassion and responsibility by stopping the killings.
A growing concern nationwide
Benue State, located in Nigeria’s North-Central region, has witnessed recurring violence over the years. Many communities have suffered attacks believed to be carried out by armed groups, including suspected herders. These attacks have led to the deaths of dozens, the displacement of thousands, and the destruction of farmlands and homes.
Civic groups, religious leaders, and activists have frequently called on the government to do more to address the violence, but many feel that not enough is being done.
Celebrities joining the advocacy
Sabinus joins a growing list of Nigerian celebrities using their platforms to speak against violence and insecurity in the country. His message is a reminder of the power of public voices and the influence entertainers can have in shaping national conversations.
He concluded his appeal with a plea to Nigerians to show solidarity and empathy for victims of the violence in Benue.
“We’re all one people,” he said. “If something is happening in Benue today, it could happen somewhere else tomorrow. Let’s stand together and call for peace.”
Conclusion
As insecurity continues to plague parts of Nigeria, voices like Sabinus’ add weight to the growing demand for prompt government intervention. The appeal is clear: stop the killings, protect the people, and act before it’s too late.
