Reality TV star Jumoke Adedoyin, widely known as JMK, has voiced her frustration after being trapped in Lagos traffic for eight hours.
A massive gridlock ensued after the temporary closure of Independence Bridge for maintenance, leaving numerous commuters stranded on the road.
JMK shared her ordeal on social media, shedding light on the daily struggles of Lagos residents. She described the situation as exhausting and unacceptable, emphasizing the urgent need for better traffic management and road infrastructure.
A long and frustrating journey
JMK landed at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport in the afternoon, expecting to reach home within a reasonable time. However, her plans took a drastic turn as she found herself stuck in traffic for hours.
“I’ve never experienced traffic like this in my life. Landed in Lagos at 4 p.m. … It’s 1:20 a.m., and I’m STILL not home. From the airport to my house! Eight hours in traffic? This city is actually wild. Lagos will humble you with no warning,” she wrote.
Her frustration reflects the struggles of many Lagosians who face extreme traffic congestion daily. With roads often in poor condition and alternative routes limited, even a short trip can turn into a nightmare.
Independence bridge closure worsens traffic
The closure of Independence Bridge for maintenance added to the chaos, leading to severe congestion across major roads. Many commuters, including JMK, were left stranded with no clear alternative routes.
Traffic congestion in Lagos is a persistent issue. Poor road conditions, frequent maintenance projects, and a lack of proper planning often worsen the situation. Drivers and passengers alike spend hours navigating gridlocked streets, wasting time and energy.
Public outcry and calls for action
Following JMK’s post, several Lagos residents shared similar experiences. Many called on the government to provide better traffic solutions and ensure smoother road maintenance planning.
“This is not just about celebrities. Everyone suffers from this. We need proper road networks and better traffic control,” one social media user commented.
Some suggested that authorities should announce road closures earlier and create efficient detours to reduce the impact on commuters. Others urged the government to improve road quality and expand major highways to accommodate the growing population.

The ongoing traffic crisis in Lagos
Lagos, Nigeria’s busiest city, has long struggled with heavy traffic. Millions of residents commute daily, often spending hours on the road due to congestion.
Experts say that the lack of proper urban planning, coupled with rapid population growth, has worsened the problem. Although efforts have been made to address traffic issues—such as introducing traffic management agencies and road expansions—progress remains slow.
Hope for improvement?
Lagosians continue to hope for lasting solutions. Many believe that better road maintenance, improved public transport, and stricter traffic regulations could ease congestion.
For now, commuters must brace for long hours on the road. As JMK and many others have experienced, Lagos traffic remains unpredictable and often unforgiving.
