Ayo Makun (AY) frustrated by lack of support from fellow men despite hard work. Claims men prefer supporting women over their male counterparts.
“I am still the only male Nigerian filmmaker who hasn’t quit due to lack of support,” he wrote. His statement reflects a deep concern about the unequal backing from his peers in the industry.
AY highlighted the discrepancy in support by questioning why men often seem hesitant to back other men. “One day, men will tell each other, ‘What has man done for man?’” he wrote. His comment suggests a frustration over the perceived lack of solidarity among men in the creative and entertainment industries.
The comedian and filmmaker emphasized the challenges he has faced, stressing that his efforts to stay relevant and maintain his responsibilities have not been adequately recognized by his fellow men. “We work hard to stay relevant and take care of our responsibilities,” he added.

He call for greater support from men aligns with his long-standing commitment to the Nigerian film industry. Despite his notable achievements, including producing several successful films, he believes he has yet to receive the level of backing he feels is deserved.
His post reflects a growing conversation about the disparities in support within Nigeria’s creative industries, particularly concerning gender dynamics. Many have praised female artists and creators for their resilience and the support they’ve received, while men like him continue to feel marginalized.
This sentiment is not new to the entertainment world, where collaborations and collective efforts often favour women, leaving many male creatives isolated. His lament highlights the need for a more balanced approach, one that encourages mutual support across all genders.
In recent years, efforts have been made to address these imbalances through various initiatives to empower male creatives. However, his concerns point to the slow progress in fostering equal support networks.
As a prominent figure in Nigerian comedy and film, his voice adds weight to the ongoing dialogue about fairness and representation. His call for solidarity reminds us that collective success requires mutual encouragement, regardless of gender.
