Popular Nigerian comedian and actor, Ayo Makun, widely known as AY, has dismissed reports suggesting that he regrets his marriage breakup and is seeking reconciliation with his estranged wife, Mabel.
The comedian, who has built a strong reputation in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, described the stories as false, misleading, and deliberately manipulative.
In a strongly worded statement posted on his Instagram page, AY said his attention was drawn to a series of social media posts claiming he is desperate to fix his marriage.
He warned that such narratives were being circulated by faceless blogs and individuals seeking traffic at the expense of his reputation.
“These publications are deliberately manipulative, calculated to mislead the public, and designed solely for traffic and engagement,” AY wrote. “For clarity, I have never authorised or made any such statements.”
The entertainer stressed that if he ever wanted to share his personal views on his relationship, he had the platform and credibility to do so directly.

“If I wish to communicate my personal position on any matter, I have the platform, the reach, and the credibility to do so directly, not through faceless blogs and rumor-driven platforms,” he said.
AY further issued a stern warning to those spreading the rumors, declaring that legal action would be taken against anyone who continues to publish defamatory content about his private life.

“Moving forward, the appropriate legal measures will be instituted against individuals, blogs, or platforms that continue to publish, promote, or circulate these defamatory stories. Enough of the lies,” he added.
The comedian and Mabel, who share two daughters, publicly confirmed their separation in April 2024 after 16 years of marriage.
At the time, Mabel revealed that she had endured long-term emotional struggles in the marriage. She hinted at mental abuse and said her decision to walk away was necessary for her peace of mind and personal safety.
AY, on his part, admitted that the marriage was “slipping through his hands,” but chose not to provide details about what went wrong. Both parties asked the public for privacy as they focused on raising their children.
Since then, the separation has continued to attract public interest, with online speculation fueling fresh stories about possible reconciliation. AY’s latest post makes it clear that such stories are baseless and will not be tolerated.
The comedian’s warning also highlights a broader issue within Nigeria’s social media space, where personal matters of celebrities are often twisted into gossip headlines to attract attention.
By threatening legal action, AY joins a growing list of public figures demanding accountability from blogs and online platforms that spread unverified information.
For now, AY appears focused on his career and co-parenting duties, rather than rekindling his relationship with Mabel.
His statement is not only a rejection of the reconciliation rumors but also a reminder that, despite public curiosity, celebrities reserve the right to control their own personal narratives.
