The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has expressed deep sorrow over the involvement of its President-elect, Abubakar Yakubu, in a tragic road accident that occurred on Tuesday, December 9, in Lagos.
According to the former president of AGN, Mr. Emeka Rollas, in a statement released on his official Instagram page, the accident was caused by a sudden mechanical brake failure, which led to a collision.
The incident resulted in the death of a child, while the child’s mother sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The ex-president said Mr. Yakubu immediately cooperated with law enforcement officers and emergency responders at the scene, acting as a responsible and law-abiding citizen.
Guild officials also visited the affected family to offer condolences, emotional support, and solidarity.
“The family and the Guild have a shared understanding that this was a tragic accident,” the statement read. “The family has shown remarkable grace, and we are grateful.”
The Guild added that Mr. Yakubu is deeply shaken by the incident and remains in mourning. He has continued to pray for the soul of the deceased child and for the full recovery of the mother.
The AGN described the event as a painful reminder of life’s fragility, noting that accidents can affect anyone regardless of age, status, tribe, or background.
The Guild appealed to its members, industry stakeholders, and the public to offer prayers and support to everyone involved in the tragedy.
It also urged the public to avoid speculation or divisive comments, stressing the need for compassion during this sensitive time.
“As a Guild built on unity and care, we stand together in grief, hope, and solidarity,” the statement added.
The AGN requested that the public respect the privacy of all parties as they work through the emotional impact of the incident.
The statement was signed by Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas, National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
