Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has left Nigeria for the United States to attend the white wedding of his nephew, international music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
The much-anticipated wedding between Davido and his wife, Chioma Avril Rowland, is scheduled to take place in Miami, Florida, in August 2025.
The music superstar had earlier confirmed the event during an interview on The Breakfast Club, a popular American radio show, which aired on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
Governor Adeleke’s trip has, however, drawn attention and questions from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), which raised concerns about the governor’s sudden absence from the state. In response, the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, issued an official statement on Tuesday to clarify the situation and reassure the public.

According to Rasheed, Governor Adeleke departed for the U.S. a few days ago aboard the Adeleke family’s private jet. He described the journey as a family affair, stating that the governor’s presence at the wedding is both personal and symbolic.
“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for the United States via the family’s private jet a few days ago for the wedding of the global music icon, his beloved nephew, David Adeleke,” the statement read.
Rasheed used the opportunity to extend an olive branch to political opponents, inviting them to join the celebration, either physically or virtually.
“His Excellency is extending an invitation to the opposition party to attend the event and share in the joy of the occasion with the Adeleke family. Those unable to attend may join virtually,” he added.
The statement also stressed that the governor remains committed to his responsibilities despite being outside the country. Rasheed pointed out that since assuming office in November 2022, Adeleke has not embarked on any official vacation and has chosen to keep this trip short.
“From November 2022 till date, the governor has not taken any official leave,” he said. “Even for this current trip, Governor Adeleke has decided to make it brief so he can quickly return to attend to key state matters.”
Rasheed further revealed that the deputy governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, is currently overseeing the day-to-day operations of the state government in Adeleke’s absence. He assured citizens that there has been no disruption in governance and that the governor remains actively engaged.
“The governor is in constant communication with his deputy, who is supervising the activities of the government,” the statement added.

Governor Adeleke’s relationship with Davido is well-known and widely publicised. The two share a close bond, with the governor frequently showing public support for the award-winning singer. Davido, in turn, has often praised his uncle for his humility and love for family.
While some critics view the governor’s trip as unnecessary or ill-timed, his supporters argue that it is a well-deserved family break and a rare opportunity for him to celebrate with loved ones. They also note that his decision to maintain contact with the state leadership during his absence reflects a high sense of responsibility.
In Osun State, public reactions have been mixed. Some residents took to social media to express concerns about the governor travelling during a period of economic challenges. Others, however, welcomed the idea of a leader who balances governance with family values.
For the Adeleke family, the Miami wedding marks another major event that highlights their growing influence on both political and entertainment stages. As preparations intensify for the high-profile celebration, Nigerians and fans worldwide are expected to follow the event closely.
Despite political tension, Governor Adeleke’s message remains clear: family comes first, but state affairs are never far from his mind.
