Popular Nigerian actress Angela Okorie has been remanded in Suleja prison following allegations of defaming fellow actress Mercy Johnson.
An Abuja court ordered her remand on Wednesday after she was arrested and arraigned. The development was disclosed by Nollywood filmmaker Stanley Ontop, who criticised the Nigerian judicial process over the matter.

Reacting on Instagram, Stanley accused Mercy Johnson of intimidation and argued that defamation cases should be treated as civil matters, not criminal ones.
“Free @realangelaokorie now irrespective of who is involved. If you feel they defamed your person, kindly approach a competent court and sue the person involved,” he wrote.
“Omo when Nigeria police will even learn to do their work well?”
He further expressed shock at the speed of the judicial process and pledged his support for Okorie, saying he would not abandon her.
New Daily Prime reports that Angela Okorie was arrested in Lagos late on Tuesday night and flown to Abuja on Wednesday morning before being remanded in Suleja prison.
