Veteran Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has sent a strong message to politicians ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a recent interview with Rudolf Okonkwo on 90MinutesAfrica, Charly Boy warned that Nigerians would not tolerate any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the polls.
He described the coming election as a defining moment in the nation’s democratic journey, stressing that the people are no longer willing to remain silent in the face of electoral fraud.
The septuagenarian, widely known as Area Fada, declared that the slogan for the next election would be “rig and die.” According to him, Nigerians are becoming more politically aware and would no longer allow their votes to be stolen.

“The 2027 election will be a defining moment for Nigeria,” Charly Boy said. “Anybody that plans to rig should be ready to die. It is rig and die. By that time, our eyes will be completely open. They are already opening, and by 2026, Nigerians will be faced with a decision, either to continue in this same way or to start a revolution in this country.”
Charly Boy has long been an outspoken critic of corruption and bad governance in Nigeria. Over the years, he has used his platform as an entertainer and activist to push for social change, especially among young people. His latest comments reflect growing frustration among citizens who feel betrayed by leaders and cheated during elections.
Speaking further, he insisted that credible elections remain the only path to good governance. According to him, every other effort to reform the system would fail if citizens’ votes do not count.
“The solution to bad governance in Nigeria can only come when our votes begin to count,” he stressed. “So, our concern right now should be how our votes will count in 2027.”
Charly Boy’s warning comes at a time when Nigerians continue to debate the outcome of past elections, with many expressing doubts about transparency and fairness. Civil society groups, political observers, and ordinary citizens have repeatedly called for stronger electoral reforms to ensure that votes truly reflect the will of the people.
Analysts believe that his remarks capture the mood of a large section of Nigerians who are growing impatient with electoral malpractice. For decades, elections in the country have been marred by allegations of rigging, violence, and voter suppression. Many fear that if these issues persist, the public’s faith in democracy will weaken even further.
By openly declaring “rig and die” as a warning slogan, Charly Boy is amplifying the anger of Nigerians who want change. His statement underscores the high stakes of the 2027 general election and the urgent need for credible leadership.
As the countdown to the polls begins, his words may serve as both a rallying cry for citizens and a caution to politicians tempted to subvert the process.
