Nollywood actor Aremu Afolayan has declared his support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking at a campaign event, Afolayan defended the policies of the current administration, stating that he is personally thriving despite the country’s economic challenges.
“When people say the country is hard, I don’t really know what that is. I am doing very well,” he said.
The actor commended the president’s diplomatic efforts, particularly referencing the lifting of the United Arab Emirates’ travel restrictions on Nigerians, which he attributed to Tinubu’s intervention.
“When the UAE banned Nigerians from entering their country, it was President Tinubu who went there, met with their president, and helped lift the ban. I was very happy and praising Tinubu,” he added.
Afolayan further emphasised what he described as Tinubu’s commitment to national unity, noting that the president’s efforts are often overshadowed by public criticism.
“Nigeria has many problems, but most Nigerians seem more focused on criticizing him and his efforts. The good work President Tinubu is doing is why I support him. He is trying to unite Nigerians,” he said.
Addressing security concerns, the actor downplayed reports of insurgency, suggesting that some narratives may be exaggerated.
“And when you watch the news about insurgency, don’t mind them, it’s all scripted,” he stated.
His comments have since sparked mixed reactions, with some Nigerians agreeing with his stance while others strongly disagree with his views on the country’s situation.
