Veteran Nollywood actress Remi Surutu has declared her support for the re-election bid of Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
The actress made the declaration while announcing the launch of EKO57, a support group aimed at mobilising public backing for Tinubu’s second term in office.

Speaking at the event, Surutu dismissed concerns about public criticism over her political stance, noting that her support for the president dates back to his tenure as governor of Lagos State.
According to her, she remained committed to Tinubu even during the 2023 election when she faced criticism from some individuals.
“A day before the election in 2023, they said to me that it was Asiwaju that I was following who killed my child. But I care less. I still went on the second day to go and vote,” she said.
She urged Nigerians not to allow intimidation or pressure to influence their voting decisions.
“Your vote is your right. Don’t let anybody deceive you. Don’t let anybody scare you,” she added.
Surutu further stated that she has no intention of withdrawing her support for Tinubu and would actively campaign for him ahead of the next election.
“I have said it myself, I am not backing out. I am going to campaign for him and vote for him. And he has my vote, and I am voting for him,” she said.
The actress also suggested that critics who believe the president has not performed well should consider the complexity of governing a country.
“If you think he has not done well, suggest a man in your family. Let that person come and govern for just one day. Then you will know what is going on,” she said.
Surutu attributed many of Nigeria’s challenges to the attitudes and actions of citizens rather than the government alone.
She also praised Tinubu’s leadership style, describing him as a hard-working leader who is constantly addressing national issues behind the scenes.
According to her, members of the president’s family, including his wife and son, have also been active in engaging with people across the country.
“This man does not sleep. The wife is always travelling all over the place. The son, too, is moving around. How many politicians have you seen his son moving around?” she said.
