President Bola Tinubu has appointed new members to the governing councils of three federal universities— the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU).
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the appointments in a statement yesterday.

The appointment came after Tinubu, in February 2025, dissolved the governing council of the University of Abuja and dismissed the university’s vice-chancellor, Aisha Maikudi, following controversy surrounding her eligibility for the position.
For the University of Abuja, Tinubu appointed Professor Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan from the South-South region, Adedeji Adefuye from the South-West, Professor Sarki Abba Abdulkadir from the North-West and Professor Aminu Mohammed Dukku from the North-East.
At the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, the newly appointed council members are Barrister Ogbonna Eugene Odo from the South-East and Muhammad Inuwa Tahi from the North-West.

For Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Tinubu appointed Nkem Okeke, Ofoke Chukwuma Charles Ugbala, and Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa from the South-East and North-West respectively, along with Nojeeb Oriola Agunbiade from the South-West.
