The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed all primary and secondary schools across the state to reopen for the new academic session on Monday, January 5, 2026.
While the majority of the state will resume normal classroom activities, the government has placed schools in areas under “special security surveillance” on a structured delay to ensure the safety of students and staff amid ongoing security operations.
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, emphasised that the phased reopening is a proactive measure to keep children out of harm’s way.

“Learning activities are to resume immediately in all but areas earlier identified to be under special security surveillance,” Olohungbebe stated.
“This structured school resumption is designed to keep our children from harm’s way amid renewed security operations.”
The ministry assured parents in the affected zones—which historically include parts of Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin, and Oke Ero LGAs—that normal activities will resume as soon as security clearance is granted.
To ensure that no child falls behind during the security-related disruptions, the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration has launched a robust radio-based and e-learning initiative.
The programme, developed in partnership with UNICEF and the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP), will provide curriculum-aligned lessons starting January 5.
Midland FM 99.1 will broadcast the programme on Mondays and Tuesdays at 11:00 am, on Wednesdays at 1:00 pm, and on Fridays at 2:30 pm.
The ministry also disclosed plans to add more radio stations in the coming weeks to achieve statewide coverage, ensuring that students can access quality education from the comfort of their homes.
The reopening directive was issued in collaboration with the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
