Vice President Kashim Shettima has declared that investment in the education sector is the only sure way to secure Nigeria’s future, asserting that “no investment in education is a gamble.”
Speaking on Saturday, during the combined convocation ceremonies of Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU), Shettima emphasised that learning remains the most potent weapon for societal liberation and economic empowerment.
The event marked a historic milestone for the institution, which graduated 2,294 students across three academic sessions (2022–2025).

In a colorful ceremony reflecting national unity, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi II, was installed as the Chancellor of the university.
The monarch, who received an honorary Doctor of Letters, pledged to drive accelerated growth for the institution.
Joining him in the honors was renowned industrialist Muhammadu Indimi, who was also conferred with an honorary doctorate for his unwavering commitment to Borno State’s development during the peak of the insurgency.
The convocation was a windfall for high-achieving students. Governor Babagana Zulum announced several life-changing rewards for the top performers:
He offered automatic employment to the 81 best graduating students within the state civil service and immediate postgraduate sponsorship for the students to study both within Nigeria and abroad.
Adding to the state’s bounty, Shettima announced the donation of two electric vehicles (EVs) to serve as campus shuttles, easing mobility for students while promoting green energy.
He also awarded additional MSc and PhD scholarships to the university’s top scholars.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babagana Gutti, highlighted the university’s rapid transformation, noting that it is currently the fastest-growing university in Nigeria.
He revealed that over 50 physical projects have been completed by the state government and the university’s ultra-modern teaching hospital, nearing completion, is set to be the largest and most equipped in the country.
Shettima praised the people of Borno for choosing “learning over loss” despite years of disruption caused by insurgency.
