President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration would remain committed to repairing and strengthening the economy.
In a nationwide address to mark the 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, he stated that the country must “turn on the taps of productivity, innovation, and enterprise.”
Tinubu cited the Ministry of Interior’s swift reforms in passport processing as an example of improved efficiency.

He urged state governments and other sub-national entities to actively contribute to nation-building, stressing that Nigeria must evolve into a nation of producers rather than mere consumers.
Tinubu further emphasised the need for Nigerians to cultivate the land, build factories, and support locally made products in order to drive sustainable growth.
“I say Nigeria first. Let us pay our taxes. Therefore, on this 65th Anniversary of Our Independence, my message is hope and a call to action. Let us believe, once more, in the boundless potential of our great nation. With Almighty God on our side, I can assure you that the dawn of a new, prosperous, self-reliant Nigeria is here”, he said.
The President stressed that his administration remained committed to directing the savings achieved and the stability established towards critical sectors.
He noted that governors at the state level, along with the push for local government autonomy, were already driving greater development
“Fellow Nigerians, I have always candidly acknowledged that these reforms have come with some temporary pains. The biting effects of inflation and the rising cost of living remain a significant concern to our government. However, the alternative of allowing our country to descend into economic chaos or bankruptcy was not an option.

“Our macro-economic progress has proven that our sacrifices have not been in vain. Together, we are laying a new foundation cast in concrete, not on quicksand. The accurate measure of our success will not be limited to economic statistics alone, but rather in the food on our families’ tables, the quality of education our children receive, the electricity in our homes, and the security in our communities”, he added.
