Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu participated in this year’s Lagos Food Festival yesterday, where he personally cooked and tasted a meal of seafood rice with stir-fry spinach.
The event was organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems at Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island.
The governor stressed that the festival is designed to be a platform for families to come together, unwind and see food from different cultures to tell the Lagos food story.

Sanwo-Olu noted that the festival, themed “Taste Beyond Borders”, is an integral part of the government’s efforts in the agriculture and food security space.
He emphasised the event’s economic purpose:
“The Lagos Food Festival is about families coming out, encouraging people in the catering and food space, and for us to be able to also use food to tell the Lagos story.”
He highlighted that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems has empowered numerous entrepreneurs over the past six years, ensuring that innovators in the food business have opportunities to thrive and grow.
In addition to the culinary event, Sanwo-Olu mentioned he also attended an art exhibition in Lagos on Sunday, where about 40 artists were engaged in wall paintings.
He described the artists’ work as a reflection of the creativity of Lagos.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, stated that the festival is a celebration of everything Lagos: the culinary culture, tradition, entertainment and everything that makes Lagos, Lagos.
She reiterated that given the state’s diverse and multicultural nature, it is best to celebrate all of the food value chain actors.

The commissioner pointed out that the festival gives exposure to these actors, with many entrepreneurs gaining recognition just by reason of the governor cooking, tasting their foods and giving a word of encouragement.
The event attracted a host of dignitaries, including members of the State Executive Council and House of Assembly, celebrity chefs, youths, and students from tertiary institutions.
