Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has a deep-sea port that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved for the industrialisation of the state’s deep-sea port licence.
He described the decision as pivotal for industrialisation and investment in the state.
Aiyedatiwa made the disclosure on Friday while addressing stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the final expanded quarterly meeting for 2025 in Akure.

The governor explained that the licence, initially secured during his tenure as deputy governor, had been delayed due to a naming error in the original business case, which necessitated starting a brand-new full business case.
He confirmed that the port will be located in Erunona, Ilaje Local Government Area, which has the state’s longest coastline.
The port corridor is expected to host massive industrial projects, many of which are already in the planning or development stages.
These include facilities for producing fertilisers and other chemical products.
The corridor will also accommodate the Sunshine Petroleum Zone, as well as a modular refinery with a planned capacity of 500,000 barrels.
“A lot is happening. The MOU has been signed, land allocated and preliminary work done.
“Construction on the modular refinery has already begun,” the governor stated, emphasising the state’s readiness for large-scale investments.
He confirmed that his administration is prioritising infrastructure development, including the dualization of roads leading to industrial zones, and is preparing residential, educational, and hospitality facilities to support the anticipated population increase.
The deep-sea port project is valued at $1.14 billion and is fully funded by private investors.
Aiyedatiwa used the forum to urge unity within the APC, calling on members to ensure personal ambitions do not divide the party, particularly ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He stressed the importance of supporting the party, even if a preferred aspirant does not secure the ticket, citing his own governorship primary experience.
Highlighting achievements in governance, the governor noted: “412 primary healthcare centres completed or nearing completion, with ambulances provided to all local governments.
“Deployment of 512 personnel across the state, backed by command and control centres. Enhanced salaries and mobility provided to strengthen grassroots oversight.”

The governor announced an investment summit in February 2026 to mark the first anniversary of the elected administration and showcase the industrial opportunities to global investors.
Stakeholders, including Southwest APC Vice Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke and Tunji Abayomi, praised the governor for his humility, inclusive leadership, and strategic approach to governance.
