The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has urged the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to support the economic reform agenda of the President Bola Tinubu administration.
The minister made the appeal on Friday during a courtesy visit by an ICAN delegation led by its President, Haruna Yahaya, at the Radio House in Abuja.
Idris called on ICAN to champion the cause in your financial and professional sphere, particularly in light of the new tax policy slated to commence in January 2026.

He stated that the President’s reform agenda, dubbed the “Renewed Hope Agenda” is anchored on: responsible leadership and fiscal discipline, economic transformation, digitisation of government processes and transparent interface with citizens.
“Reforms must not only work, but citizens must also clearly understand them. This is why collaboration with reputable professional bodies like ICAN is essential,” the minister said.
He welcomed ICAN’s expertise as partners in public communication, financial management, and civic orientation to build transparency, restore public trust, and strengthen national institutions.
To facilitate this partnership, the minister offered ICAN access to the Federal Government’s (FG) public information platforms, including state-owned media organisations and national orientation channels.
This access is intended to support financial literacy, ethical leadership campaigns, and public enlightenment on economic reforms.
The minister also proposed collaboration on research-based policy communication, capacity building for civil servants, and public education aimed at demystifying technical economic issues for everyday Nigerians.
The minister assured the Institute that the FG remains committed to fostering constructive partnerships with professional bodies to deliver reforms that are transparent, people-centred, and accountable.
ICAN commits to transparency
Yahaya commended the ministry for its role in promoting national cohesion and transparency.
He noted that building trust in government is critical to the success of economic reforms.
