The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has assured Nigerians that the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) does not currently pose a significant threat to the country.  The New Daily Prime earlier reported about the HMPV, the virus outbreaks which has raised global concerns in some regions. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed Sunday Udeh-Okoye as its National Secretary, following a recent Court of Appeal ruling.   In December, the Court of Appeal in Enugu nullified the appointment of Samuel Anyanwu and upheld Udeh-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary of the party. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has dismissed allegations made by Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor, claiming the party Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka threatened his life. The Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Igbokoda has dismantled nine illegal refinery sites and confiscated 20,000 litres of crude oil along with 15,000 litres of illegally refined diesel in the Obenla community, located in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. Navy Captain Aliyu Usman, Commander of the Base, revealed this during a press briefing on Thursday. According to him, the operation, conducted on January 6, 2025, was based on credible intelligence. The Federal Government (FG) has announced plans to adjust telecom tariffs while assuring Nigerians that the increase will not reach the 100 per cent hike proposed by operators. The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja yesterday. The Ikeja Special Offences Court in Lagos has rejected an application by Godwin Emefiele, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), challenging its jurisdiction to hear his case. Emefiele is facing a 26-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing him of abuse of office. The charges allege that he allocated $2.14 billion in foreign exchange without competitive bidding, an act the EFCC claims undermines the rights of Nigerians. Two Nigerians residing in the United States, Olutayo Sunday Ogunlaja (39) and Abel Adeyi Daramola (37), could each face up to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of orchestrating a $560,000 romance scam.
