The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly opposed the latest attempt by the State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
In a statement released on thursday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauj, the APC described the impeachment proceedings as unacceptable and pledged to do everything possible to prevent them.

The Assembly, dominated by APC members following recent defections, commenced the process on Thursday, citing allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy.
An impeachment notice is expected to be served within the next seven days.
However, the state APC leadership has rejected the move outright.
“Our position as at today on this matter is that we solemnly reject the resort to an impeachment process against our governor and his deputy,” Mr Nwauju stated.

He argued that it would be “totally untenable” for the party to remain silent while remnants of past intra-party conflicts within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) threaten to spill over and tarnish the APC’s image.
Nwauju emphasised that the current administration in Rivers State is effectively an APC government, particularly after Governor Fubara’s defection to the party alongside key supporters.
“We will do everything possible to ensure that the Government of Rivers State, which is an APC government, is not destabilised,” he added.
