Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has announced his intention to run for a second term in the 2026 gubernatorial election.
He made the declaration at a meeting with the All Progressive Congress (APC) Central Working Committee at the party’s secretariat on Monday.
Oyebanji stated that his decision was motivated by a desire to build on the progress of his first term and the widespread support he has received from various groups across the state.

The governor, who is approaching the end of his first three-year tenure, expressed gratitude to the party leadership and the people of the state.
He stated that he has delivered on his campaign promises and highlighted the need for his administration to consolidate its achievements and continue to provide effective governance.
Emphasising his commitment to democratic principles and unity within the APC, Oyebanji stated that the party in the state remains a cohesive family.
He also paid tribute to the state’s former governors, whom he referred to as the party’s leaders and foundational pillars, and assured them of his continued respect.
Oyebanji affirmed that any interested party member is free to contest for the APC governorship ticket.
He also used the occasion to urge citizens to register for their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) ahead of the June 2026 election.

The state APC Chairman, Sola Elesin praised the governor’s leadership style and credited him with fostering a peaceful and unified party environment.
The meeting was also attended by key state officials, including the deputy governor, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, and other members of the state’s political leadership.
