The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has roundly dismissed a circulating social media list purporting to name consensus candidates for the 2026 governorship election, branding it a malicious fabrication by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement issued yesterday, APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal accused the PDP of orchestrating the deceit to sow discord within APC ranks and cling to power through underhanded tactics.
Lawal decried the list as “a roguery and drudgery meant to cause disharmony and division,” emanating from the PDP’s “hopeless” camp.
“The handlers of the hopeless party now go around concocting and circulating imaginary and fake lists suggesting that the APC has assigned elective positions to certain individuals,” the statement read.
He pointed to the PDP state chairman’s alleged endorsement of the document as proof of the party’s descent into an “abyss” of desperation, revealing a “satyric” thirst for re-election despite mounting evidence of their impending defeat.
The APC portrayed the hoax as a frantic bid by the PDP to undermine their unity, especially as the 2026 polls loom.
“This false publication reveals the ruling party’s satyric desperation to win re-election next year,” Lawal asserted.
“It is an indication that the PDP had already lost the forthcoming governorship election before it is held.”
He likened the list to “a product of beer parlour gossip put together by drunken sailors and idle minds in the PDP,” urging members and the public to ignore it outright.
Reassuring supporters, Lawal confirmed that no such consensus list exists within the APC. “We want to inform our esteemed members and supporters that our party did not compile any consensus list,” he declared.
The chairman boasted of the party’s robust aspirant pool, each poised to trounce incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“There is none of our governorship aspirants who is not capable of sending Governor Adeleke back to Atlanta in the United States or wherever he might have come from,” the statement quipped, evoking Adeleke’s pre-governorship life as an entertainer in the US.
Lawal advised the PDP to abandon “baseless fabrications” and refocus on legitimate campaigning, warning that their latest subterfuge is “dead on arrival.”
He emphasised the APC’s unbreakable solidarity and laser-focused resolve to reclaim Osun, painting a picture of a party energised by the PDP’s missteps.
