The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alerted security agencies to potential unrest ahead of a planned protest by labour unions in the state capital.
In a statement issued on yesterday by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to monitor the situation closely and take proactive steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

The demonstration, organised by the Joint Labour Movement comprising leaders of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) is scheduled to take place in Osogbo on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
The protest stems from a protracted dispute over local government funds. According to the APC, the Federal Government has been disbursing allocations directly into accounts operated by reinstated council officials, a move strongly opposed by the Osun State Government under Governor Ademola Adeleke.
As a result, the funds have reportedly been withheld by the bank since 2025, pending resolution of disagreements concerning control and authorised signatories.
The Osun APC alleged that labour leaders have instructed members of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to mobilise participants from across the state’s local government areas.
The party warned that the planned action, if not properly managed, could disrupt banking operations, commercial activities, and public order in Osogbo.
“We are calling on security agencies to act swiftly to forestall any breakdown of law and order,” the statement read. It further claimed that the protest follows recent engagements between labour representatives and officials within the Adeleke administration.
The APC’s warning comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State, where the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government has faced criticism from opposition parties over various governance issues.
The APC has positioned itself as a vigilant opposition, frequently highlighting perceived shortcomings in the state administration.

Neither the Osun State Government nor the labour unions had publicly responded to or refuted the allegations contained in the APC statement.
The planned protest underscores the ongoing friction between labour unions and state authorities over financial autonomy for local governments an issue that has generated nationwide debate following recent Supreme Court rulings affirming greater independence for councils.
Security operatives in the state are expected to remain on high alert in the coming days as efforts continue to avert any escalation.
