The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has described Osun State as a critical political battleground ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling it a test of strength and a rehearsal ground for future contests.
Nentawe made the remarks in Abuja today while addressing key issues affecting the social, political and economic management of the country.
He stressed that Osun is “not just another state election” but “a test of strength, a battle of perception, a measure of organisational discipline, and an important rehearsal ground for 2027.”
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, the APC chairman commended the Osun State chapter of the party for its visible readiness, growing organisational capacity and renewed seriousness ahead of upcoming political engagements.

He noted that the signs from Osun were encouraging but warned that electoral success would require far more than enthusiasm, ceremonial mobilisation or symbolic activities.
Yilwatda urged party members to remain focused, disciplined and strategic, emphasising that only a well-coordinated structure and clear messaging would guarantee victory. “We must approach it with the seriousness it deserves,” he said.
He cautioned against internal weaknesses that had historically undermined political operations.
“Confusion in authority lines, duplication of functions, ego-driven interference and competing centres of influence have historically weakened political operations and must not be allowed to undermine the APC’s efforts in Osun,” the chairman declared.
Every successful political operation, he added, required one clear command structure. “There must be no ambiguity in authority, no overlap in responsibilities, and no room for avoidable internal disruption. Every member of the campaign team must know their assignment, their target, and their expected outcome.”
The APC national chairman’s comments come at a time of national transition and democratic consolidation. He argued that Nigeria cannot afford to gamble its future on confusion, instability or politically disoriented alternatives.

Party insiders view the forthcoming Osun contest as an early indicator of the APC’s organisational strength and ability to project unity and purpose ahead of the 2027 polls.
Professor Yilwatda’s intervention is seen as a direct call for discipline and cohesion within the party ranks in Osun, setting the tone for a more structured and focused campaign strategy.
The party leadership has made it clear that success in Osun will depend on meticulous planning, strict adherence to a single chain of command and unwavering commitment from all members.
