The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Accord Party in Osun State have exchanged sharp criticisms over the performance of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, as political tensions rise in anticipation of the governorship election scheduled for 8 August 2026.
In a statement released on Sunday, APC state chairman Tajudeen Lawal accused Governor Adeleke and his supporters of mounting baseless attacks on former governor Adegboyega Oyetola now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Lawal described these criticisms as desperate attempts by a ruling party facing electoral disadvantage.
He claimed the Adeleke government had failed in critical areas such as health, education, security, and infrastructure, alleging a lack of proper planning and mismanagement of public funds.
Lawal further questioned the administration’s handling of local government allocations, attributing delays to a Court of Appeal ruling on 10 February 2025 that, according to the APC, reinstated its elected council officials without appeal. He accused the state government of filing multiple lawsuits to obstruct the process.
“It is neither Oyetola nor Oyebamiji that is responsible for the ill-fated status of this administration,” Lawal stated, expressing confidence that the APC would triumph in 2026 to “restore the state’s lost glory”.
Responding to the statement, the Accord Party state chairman Pastor Victor Akande dismissed the APC’s remarks as evidence of panic and intellectual bankruptcy, suggesting the opposition feared irrelevance in Osun politics.
Akande praised Governor Adeleke who recently switched to Accord after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party for delivering progress in road construction, public infrastructure, and workers’ welfare, including regular salary payments.
He highlighted upgrades in health facilities and enhanced security cooperation, crediting these for greater stability.
It argued the administration was tackling inherited challenges while rejecting accusations of hardship under prior APC rule, particularly the era of half-salaries. “Osun will not relapse.
The people will not return to their abusers,” he warned, asserting voters would reject the APC in 2026.
