Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has described Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno’s defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as one likely to attract increased investment to the South-South region.
The New Daily Prime reported that Eno announced his defection from PDP to APC on Friday after months of speculation.
Okpebholo, who congratulated Eno in a statement released on Saturday, praised his boldness and courage in embracing the “progressive ideals” and national vision championed by the APC.

He said the move reflects a “profound” commitment to advancing Akwa Ibom State’s development and ensuring its full inclusion within the federal government’s agenda under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope initiative.
Okpebholo stated, “The decision by Governor Umo Eno to join the APC shows his foresight and dedication to the welfare of his people.
“It signifies a strategic alignment that will undoubtedly unlock greater opportunities, foster stronger collaborations, and accelerate the delivery of democratic dividends to the good people of Akwa Ibom State.”
He further highlighted the vital role of unity and cooperation between the states and the federal government in driving progress.
He expressed optimism that Eno’s defection would bolster the APC’s influence in the South-South and play a key role in enhancing national unity and development.

The Edo governor assured his Akwa Ibom counterpart of the Edo State Government’s and APC’s full support.
