The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has extended a warm welcome to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang following his recent defection to the ruling party, while setting a clear agenda emphasising unity, inclusivity, and collaboration with President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Monday by Forum Chairman Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the group comprising APC stakeholders from the six North-Central states praised Mutfwang’s move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as a step towards an environment where “unity, peace and progress flourish, and ethnic and religious differences are set aside.”

The Forum, which actively campaigned for Mutfwang’s defection, expressed confidence in his leadership, stating that his joining the APC serves the best interests of Plateau’s people.
“We campaigned for Governor Mutfwang’s defection because we know he has a good heart and really wants to develop the state,” the statement read.
However, it advised the governor to distance himself from officials who, during his PDP tenure, allegedly promoted ethnic and religious divisions.
“Now that he is in the APC, we want him to carefully select and work with people that truly want the development of Plateau State, not those who are only interested in pushing ethnic and religious agenda.”
Zazzaga urged Mutfwang to unite all citizens regardless of ethnicity or faith, ensuring democratic dividends reach every corner of the state.
He should “be the father of all citizens” and collaborate closely with President Tinubu on security challenges for direct access to federal resources.
The Forum also encouraged embracing the Renewed Hope Agenda, taking full charge of his administration, and shedding any undue influences or “godfathers.”

“Having joined the progressive party, he should take charge and work for the people without fear or favour.”
Despite facing intimidation during their campaign – from those fearing impacts on their 2027 ambitions the Forum persevered, convinced Mutfwang’s move strengthens the APC.
It linked the defection to its pledge of six million North-Central votes for Tinubu’s re-election, noting Plateau’s support would help deliver this.
Mutfwang formally defected on 2 January, receiving his APC card in Jos amid widespread celebration.
