The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has refuted claims by Senator Aminu Tambuwal that there is a national consensus to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday, APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo described Tambuwal’s assertion as a failed attempt to undermine Tinubu’s mandate and distract from the administration’s achievements.
Tambuwal, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former Sokoto State governor, claimed on a television programme on Friday that a national consensus, not a northern conspiracy, was forming to block Tinubu’s re-election.
Oladejo dismissed this as “laughable,” asserting that Nigerians elected Tinubu in 2023 and continue to support his leadership.
“What is emerging is a national consensus to support good governance, and in 2027, Nigerians will reaffirm their trust in a leader who delivers,” he said.
Oladejo highlighted Tinubu’s achievements, including economic stabilization efforts and legacy infrastructure projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said are yielding visible results.
“Halfway into his first term, the nation is witnessing the clarity, courage, and competence of this administration,” he stated.
“There is no consensus to unseat President Tinubu, only opposition propaganda.”
The APC spokesperson took a swipe at Tambuwal, urging him to address allegations surrounding his tenure as Sokoto governor.
“Recent revelations have not painted him in a flattering light, and no press statements can launder the trail of allegations,” Oladejo said, referencing ongoing anti-graft investigations.
Oladejo mocked the opposition’s attempts to form a united front, describing their talks of a 2027 alliance as a “comedy movie” doomed by greed, egos, and conflicting interests.
“Their ambitions are incompatible, and their loyalty lies only in personal advantage,” he said. “Nigerians are watching with popcorn in hand as this elusive alliance unravels.”
The APC reiterated its commitment to delivering for Nigerians, focusing on building roads, creating jobs, fixing power, and reforming the economy.
“While the opposition plays media politics, we are laying the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria,” Oladejo added.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that some opposition leaders have adopted the African Democratic Congress as a platform to challenge Tinubu in 2027, but the APC remains confident in its achievements and public support.
