Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State held a strategic dialogue with Muslim leaders, seeking a unified front for peace and the “dividends of democracy.”
The engagement, hosted at the Crispan Suites and Event Centre in Jos, served as a formal briefing for the Muslim community on the governor’s “wide consultations” that led to his defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier this month.
Mutfwang, a former human rights attorney, explained that his entry into the APC was not merely a change of party but the birth of a new political movement designed to align with the state with the national government ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“My decision to join the APC was aimed at deepening political harmony in the state,” the governor told the religious leaders.
“This movement is driven by the aspirations of the Plateau people, and I appeal for your unwavering support to enable us to attract greater development from the centre.”
The meeting was attended by a “who’s who” of Islamic leadership in the North-Central region.
Muhammad Haruna, the Emir of Wase and State Chairman of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), lauded the governor for his inclusive approach.
The Emir, who was recently inaugurated as the head of the reconstituted 19-man JNI Executive Council, emphasised that justice and fairness remain the only path to sustainable growth.
The Emir of Wase commended the governor for what he described as a significant step towards promoting religious harmony and advancing key infrastructural projects.
Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, the National Chairman of Izala, applauded the governor’s proactive approach to security and overall state development.
Professor Khalid Aliyu Abubakar, National Secretary of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), pledged the support of the Ulama in efforts to promote political stability.

Meanwhile, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Wase, signalled his support for the governor’s vision of building a united political family within the APC.
Mutfwang reaffirmed that despite the political realignment, his administration remains “blind to faith and ethnicity” in its governance.
He highlighted his recent appointment of Ahmed Idris Wase as the State Amirul Hajj for the 2026 pilgrimage as proof of his commitment to healing old divisions and forging a formidable, united front.
The governor urged all Plateau citizens to reclaim and nurture the state’s heritage of peace, promising that every inch of the land will be protected from the genocidal threats that have troubled the rural communities in the past.
