The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over its defection crisis which is rapidly rendering the party irrelevant in the Nigerian political space.
In a statement shared with the New Daily Prime, the Lagos APC Spokesman, Seye Oladejo, stressed that the wave of defection has weakened the political structure and credibility of the party, thereby resulting in the emergence of the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as the de facto chairman of what he described as a “one-man PDP Governors Forum”.
According to him, this development is indicative of the absence of confidence in PDP’s leadership, its lack of “ideological clarity”, and its inability to resolve internal crises within the party.
“Let it be said plainly: this is not coincidence; it is rejection. The steady exodus of governors and key stakeholders is a direct vote of no confidence in the PDP’s leadership, its lack of ideological clarity, and its chronic inability to resolve internal crises”, Oladejo said.
He added that PDP cannot be trusted with essential governmental responsibilities, particularly national governance, due to its inability and incapability to effectively manage its internal affairs.
“A political party that cannot keep its house in order, that hemorrhages its own elected leaders, and that offers no coherent direction cannot and should not be entrusted with the governance of a complex nation like Nigeria. The PDP’s current state is not just a failure; it is a cautionary tale”, Oladejo stated.
The APC spokesman also urged opposition parties to emulate the political blueprint of the APC—one that is defined by sacrifice, resilience, discipline, and strategic patience. In his view: “The APC did not stumble into power; it built trust, earned legitimacy, and presented Nigerians with a clear and compelling alternative. That pathway remains available, but it requires hard work, not shortcuts”.
Oladejo further emphasised that the party would remain focused on establishing progressive governance and strengthening democratic institutions for the benefit of Nigerians.
He then concluded by encouraging Nigerians to reject “political platforms” defined by disunity, internal instability, and defection, underscoring that “the future belongs to parties that demonstrate unity, vision, and the capacity to lead, not those struggling to survive their own internal contradictions”.
