The Kebbi State All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly caucus has dismissed allegations by former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, accusing Governor Nasir Idris and other party stakeholders of importing thugs and engaging in illegal arms deals.
The caucus labelled the claims as false and politically motivated, aimed at destabilising the state’s peace.
Malami, who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from the APC, has been in the spotlight following an attack on his convoy in Birnin Kebbi on September 1, 2025.

In a petition addressed to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Department of State Services, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Malami accused Idris and his allies of orchestrating the attack and plotting to destabilise Kebbi State.
He described the alleged actions as a “direct threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty and internal stability.”
Addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday, Senator Adamu Aliero, speaking for the caucus, refuted Malami’s claims, calling them a desperate attempt to undermine the peace and progress under Governor Idris’s leadership.
Aliero alleged that during Malami’s recent condolence visit to Birnin Kebbi, he hired thugs from Sokoto, Koko, and Rara, who attacked the APC State Secretariat, sparking violent clashes with APC supporters.
“This unprecedented act speaks volumes about who is truly sowing chaos,” Aliero stated.
The caucus emphasised that Kebbi remains one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states due to Governor Idris’s investments in security and collaboration with security agencies.
They urged the public to dismiss Malami’s petition as a smear campaign laced with dangerous rhetoric to incite fear and distract from his waning political relevance.
The group also called on security agencies to focus on genuine threats and invite Malami to substantiate his allegations.

Reaffirming their support for Idris and the APC administration, the caucus vowed to protect Kebbi’s peace and deliver good governance.
They criticised Malami’s claims as reckless, especially from a former top law officer, and urged security agencies not to be swayed by partisan theatrics.
