Former Vice President Namadi Sambo has dismissed recent reports claiming he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The rumours, which circulated widely on Wednesday, were sparked by a photograph of Sambo with Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his media adviser, Umar Sani, the former vice president clarified that the photograph was not recent and was taken years ago during a condolence visit by Governor Sani to Sambo’s residence in Abuja, following the death of Sambo’s brother, the late Sani Sambo.
The statement firmly refuted the defection claims, describing them as “entirely false and without any basis” and accused the reports of being a deliberate misrepresentation aimed at misleading the public.
Umar Sani emphasised that Namadi Sambo remains a loyal and dedicated member of the PDP with no intention of leaving the party.

He highlighted that Sambo is scheduled to attend the commissioning of a 300-bed hospital in Kaduna, a project he initiated during his time in office, underlining his continued commitment to public service and the development of Kaduna State.
The statement concluded that the defection story was “purely the figment of the imagination of its authors calculated to sow confusion and achieve cheap political mileage.”
