Calls have grown louder for the Osun State leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to step in and resolve a escalating internal conflict in Ibokun Ward 1, Obokun Local Government Area.
The dispute centres on the purported suspension of former state assembly member Olatunbosun Oyintiloye by some ward executives.
The controversy erupted after a letter, dated Thursday 29 January 2026 and addressed to the state APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, announced Oyintiloye’s indefinite suspension.

Signed by 18 ward executives and five leaders, the document accused him of unauthorisedly taking over an Executive Assistant (EA) slot and associated funds totalling N5.6 million.
However, the move quickly faced strong opposition. Oluyide Adesina, the APC chairman in Obokun Local Government, wrote to the state chairman disclaiming any involvement or awareness of the action.
Adesina described the purported suspension as procedurally flawed and capable of sparking internal discord if not addressed promptly.
He emphasised that he had not been consulted or informed, and stressed that the party’s constitution, particularly Article 21, mandates specific disciplinary processes that were not followed, rendering the decision ineffective.
The situation intensified when leaders and members of Ward 1 publicly distanced themselves from Gbenga Fagbamila, whom they accused of falsely claiming to be ward chairman without widespread acceptance.
They dismissed the circulating statement as misleading and sponsored by those opposed to Oyintiloye’s influence in Obokun politics.
The stakeholders praised Oyintiloye’s public service record, which includes roles as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, member and chairman of the House Committee on Information and Strategy from 2015 to 2019, and Special Adviser on Civic Engagement. Currently a federal government appointee, he remains actively involved in party mobilisation.
Separately, the Obokun APC Party Leaders’ Forum issued a rejoinder rejecting the suspension outright. It described the action as a breach of party rules and lacking due process, asserting that no evidence of misconduct or anti-party activities existed against Oyintiloye.
The forum warned that the rift risked deepening factionalism in the ward and local government, especially as the party pursues broader reconciliation efforts ahead of the next governorship election.

The leaders urged the state working committee to investigate, uphold constitutional provisions, and stabilise the ward’s leadership.
Thry stressed the need for swift intervention to preserve the supremacy of the APC constitution and maintain internal unity.
This ward-level turmoil highlights ongoing challenges in maintaining cohesion within the Osun APC, with observers noting that unresolved disputes could undermine the party’s position in the state.
