The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded victory in Niger State’s local government elections, securing all 25 chairmanship seats and 271 out of 274 councillorship positions, according to the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC).
In a statement signed by Commissioner for Operations, Barrister Mohammed Liman, and released to journalists, the commission confirmed the ratification of results following collation by Returning Officers.
The process adhered strictly to electoral laws and operational guidelines, ensuring transparency and credibility.
Liman highlighted the APC’s dominance, noting the election of prominent figures including Dr Mustapha M. Jibrin for Chanchaga Local Government Area, Usman Manko Mohammad for Bida, and Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu for Agaie, among others.
“After a thorough review, the Commission ratified the results, confirming the election of candidates from the APC in all chairmanship positions,” he stated.
The APC’s triumph extended to the councillorship races, where it claimed 271 seats.
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured a solitary victory in each of Tafa and Rafi Local Government Areas, marking its only inroads in an otherwise one-sided contest.
NSIEC congratulated the elected chairmen and councillors, urging them to uphold transparency, accountability, and a steadfast commitment to public service.
“These principles are essential for fostering development in their local councils,” Liman emphasised.
Certificates of Return will be presented to the winners shortly, with notifications to be issued to stakeholders imminently.
The commission reaffirmed its dedication to conducting credible, transparent, and inclusive elections.
The statement also extended commendations to security agencies, election observers, the media, political parties, and the electorate for their collaborative efforts in delivering a hitch-free poll.
