Professor Nentawe Yilwatda links e-registration to party modernization and President Tinubu’s reforms
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has issued a strict directive to all State Coordinators overseeing the party’s ongoing electronic membership registration: ensure that every member is registered, or face replacement.
Professor Yilwatda gave the order during a meeting with all State Registration Coordinators at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, emphasizing that the position of Coordinator is a responsibility, not a ceremonial role.
“If any Coordinator does not get all members registered in his or her state, we will drop you and appoint another person. The position you occupy is an opportunity to make the party better,” he stated.
The nationwide e-registration exercise, which began earlier this month, is scheduled to end on January 30, 2026, and is being carried out across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Party sources described the initiative as “a strategic political reform,” aimed at strengthening credibility, internal democracy, mobilization, and electoral performance.
Cooperation Across Party Structures
Professor Yilwatda urged State Party Chairmen to support the coordinators fully, stressing that the success of elections is determined at the grassroots, not the National Secretariat. He warned that discrepancies between claimed party membership and actual votes would be unacceptable going forward.
“No Chairman, no Coordinator, and not even a Governor has the power to stop any party member from being registered. No one must be disenfranchised,” the APC Chairman warned. He also directed coordinators to use Android phones where tablets were unavailable to avoid delays.

Progress and Early Success
Giving an update on the exercise, Professor Yilwatda revealed that Delta State is currently leading, followed by Lagos, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Plateau States, encouraging other states to emulate their commitment. He added that he would personally review progress in five days.
The party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, disclosed that more than 2 million Nigerians had successfully completed registration in the first week of the exercise. Basiru expressed optimism that the number of registered members could exceed 9 million within two weeks, describing the turnout as highly encouraging.
“This digital registration platform allows both existing members to revalidate and new supporters to join. It will create a credible, transparent, and up-to-date central database for the APC,” Basiru said.
Link to National Reforms
The chairman linked the e-registration exercise to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader reforms, stressing the importance of accurate membership data for planning, coordination, and resource allocation.
“We need accurate data to support the President. We must be different from all other parties. We cannot make decisions on faulty premises. This registration must succeed,” Professor Yilwatda declared.
Accountability and Enforcement
The National Executive Committee (NEC) has empowered the party to remove any State Executive Committee member or Coordinator who fails to comply before the January 30 deadline. Party officials pledged that the exercise would be inclusive, and no member would be blocked or excluded from registering.
The APC continues to emphasize grassroots revitalization, internal democracy, and operational transparency as key pillars of its nationwide digital membership drive.
