Nigeria’s political atmosphere is teeming with bold declarations, strong alliances, and intense speculation as the 2027 general elections draw closer. Akinwunmi Ambode, former Governor of Lagos State, has become one of the latest political figures to make headlines by affirming his loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, clarifying his political stance.
Ambode immediately set the record straight after rumours spread that he was planning a political comeback under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). On Monday, August 11, 2025, a report on Flip TV revealed that he strongly denied claims he intended to run for governor under the ADC. He dismissed the reports as false publications and used the opportunity to boldly reaffirm his support for President Tinubu.
Ambode, who governed Lagos State between 2015 and 2019 under the APC, reiterated that his support for Tinubu is based on loyalty and conviction. He described the president as his leader, mentor, and a strong supporter of Nigeria’s development, stressing that his loyalty to both Tinubu and the ruling party is non-negotiable.

Outlining his reasons for supporting Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, Ambode praised the president’s leadership style as “results driven.” He cited reforms in pensions, improved student loan accessibility, youth empowerment programmes, and national economic growth as examples of Tinubu’s performance in office. He also highlighted major achievements such as the elimination of fuel scarcity, enhanced security measures, and policies aimed at easing the daily struggles of ordinary Nigerians.
According to Ambode, these accomplishments form the foundation of his confidence in Tinubu’s ability to secure re-election in 2027. He stressed that the president’s focus and inclusive style of governance are already “restoring hope and delivering tangible results,” adding that Nigerians would have “even greater reason to celebrate” if Tinubu is given another four years.
He declared:
“I am convinced that, given another four years, Nigerians will have even greater reason to celebrate.”
For Ambode, Tinubu’s re-election is not just about continuity of reforms but also about laying a pathway to national progress.
In conclusion, Ambode urged APC members and Nigerians in general to remain focused and ignore political rumours. He pledged unwavering support for Tinubu and the APC as the 2027 elections approach.
“Let it be clear: I stand solidly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress. We will work together to ensure victory in 2027 and continue delivering the dividends of democracy to all Nigerians,” he said.
This firm declaration underscores APC’s readiness for the upcoming elections. Ambode’s statements demonstrate that his motivations remain deeply tied to loyalty to the APC and recognition of Tinubu’s policy achievements.
