The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on opposition parties and critics of President Bola Tinubu to shift towards constructive, policy-driven debate as the 2027 general elections approach, insisting that democracy flourishes through ideas rather than resentment or grievance-based politics.
In a statement released on Monday by party spokesman Seye Oladejo, the APC emphasised that meaningful democratic engagement demands competition based on substantive policies, not hostility or theatrical displays.

“Democratic growth is sustained through the exchange of ideas, not through persistent bitterness and obstruction,” Oladejo said.
He criticised opposition groups for relying on provocation, incitement, and what he termed “grievance trading”, arguing that such an approach weakens rather than strengthens democracy.
“Nigeria deserves thoughtful critics with solutions, not perpetual complainers who confuse noise with relevance.”
Oladejo noted that, despite multiple electoral cycles, opposition parties remain fragmented and devoid of coherent policy alternatives, opting instead for exaggerated pessimism and selective narratives.
He accused them of normalising outrage and refusing to accept electoral outcomes, describing this as neither democratic nor patriotic.
The spokesman further rejected portrayals of constitutional accountability as victimisation, stating: “In a functioning democracy, the rule of law does not bend to political sensitivities. Criminal allegations are not acts of persecution, and judicial processes are not stages for political drama.”
Defending the Tinubu administration, Oladejo highlighted its focus on addressing economic distortions and bolstering security, acknowledging that tough decisions are necessary for long-term stability.

“Governance is hard work, and hard talk without hard thinking cannot replace it.”
He urged opposition parties to adopt a new political culture rooted in ideas, patriotism, and credible alternatives, warning that Nigerians are growing weary of bitterness-driven politics.
“They will continue to entrust their future to leadership that builds solutions rather than complains.”
