The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Nigeria’s opposition parties of growing desperation as the 2027 general elections approach, claiming they seek power without accepting responsibility or accountability.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, the APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, criticised opposition figures for allegedly demanding “political immunity” from scrutiny whenever faced with allegations of past misconduct.

He described their behaviour as an attempt to evade the consequences of their records in office.
“We have observed with a mixture of amusement and concern the growing desperation within the opposition as Nigeria steadily counts down to the 2027 general elections,” Oladejo said.
“Stripped of ideas, credibility, and public trust, the opposition has now resorted to an audacious and shameful demand for political immunity from scrutiny, accountability, and consequence.”
Oladejo specifically faulted critics of the government for objecting to the arrest of certain opposition figures over alleged corruption during their time in power.
He argued that such complaints amounted to cries of “persecution” when confronted with facts or held to standards they had previously applied to others.
“Unable to defend their records in office or articulate a coherent alternative vision for Nigeria, opposition figures have chosen to cry persecution each time they are confronted with facts, interrogated by public opinion, or held to the same standards they once weaponised against others,” he stated.
The spokesman emphasised that the opposition’s approach revealed a desire for “power without responsibility, ambition without accountability, and relevance without performance,” declaring that “that era is long gone.”
He further portrayed the opposition as “haunted by their past actions and public records,” now seeking “political cover rather than public validation.”
Oladejo warned that their “fear-driven posture” involved attempts to blackmail the government into granting unwarranted protection.

“The government will neither be blackmailed nor ambushed into granting protection to political actors who have not earned the trust of Nigerians,” he asserted.
“Immunity is not a campaign strategy, and persecution narratives will not erase documented failures.”
