A reckless attempt to bypass traffic ended in a violent collision on Monday along the Lekki–Marwa axis, as a truck driver navigating against traffic crushed a dispatch motorcycle rider.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the arrest of the recalcitrant driver following the “brazen and indefensible” breach of traffic laws.
According to a security assessment by the agency, the driver of a mini flat-body truck was driving “one-way” (against the prescribed traffic flow) when he forcefully intruded into the legitimate lane of an oncoming dispatch rider.

The resulting head-on collision left the rider with grievous injuries.
LASTMA operatives, responding to an emergency alert, arrived at the scene to find the victim in critical condition.
In a display of community spirit, motorists assisted LASTMA personnel in evacuating the rider to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.
Officials apprehended the offending driver at the scene of the incident. Upon inspection, they discovered additional violations, including the fact that the truck was operating without any visible registration number plates.
The authorities subsequently handed the driver over to the Maroko Police Division for a thorough investigation and possible criminal prosecution.
“This reckless infraction… culminated in the truck forcefully intruding into the dispatch rider’s legitimate lane,” stated Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA.
The crash caused significant obstruction along the busy Lekki inward Marwa corridor.
However, LASTMA officials cleared the wreckage and dismantled the traffic gridlock, restoring the smooth flow of vehicles shortly after the incident.

LASTMA has issued a strong caution to commercial and truck operators, reiterating its “unwavering resolve” to rid Lagos roads of dangerous driving habits.
The agency urged the public to stay vigilant and report traffic violations through official channels to help maintain order across the state.
