Executive members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, have removed and expelled the party’s state chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, less than two weeks after his re-election.
The decision was reached during the ward’s second executive meeting and formalised through a resolution signed by 27 ward executives. The meeting was presided over by the Ward Chairman, Shuaibu Hassan, with the ward secretary, Yahaya Saidu Dungurawa, also in attendance.
According to the resolution, Dungurawa was expelled from the party over a series of allegations, including causing division within the NNPP, fuelling internal crises, failing to fulfil his obligation to pay party dues, and making what were described as abusive comments against the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The ward executives stated that the alleged actions of the state chairman were unacceptable and detrimental to the image, unity and overall progress of the party. They stressed that such conduct undermined internal cohesion and threatened the stability of the NNPP at a critical time.
In the resolution, the executives explained that the decision to remove Dungurawa was taken in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution. They said the move was intended to enforce discipline and preserve internal harmony within the NNPP, adding that no individual should be allowed to act in a manner that brings the party into disrepute.
The ward leadership further disclosed that copies of the resolution had been forwarded to the party’s leadership at the local government, state and national levels for necessary action. They also confirmed that the decision had been formally communicated to the NNPP’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as well as Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The executives described the expulsion as a clear warning to party members who misuse their positions or act as though they are above party rules and regulations. They emphasised that the NNPP remains an institution governed by discipline and collective responsibility, not personal interests.
Reaffirming their loyalty to the party’s national leadership under Senator Kwankwaso, the ward executives pledged their continued support for Governor Yusuf and his administration. They reiterated their commitment to peace, unity and the growth of the NNPP across Kano State and beyond.
The development has added to ongoing internal tensions within the party and is expected to draw responses from the state and national leadership as consultations and reviews of the ward’s action continue.
