FccThe Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has unsealed the corporate headquarters of Okeja Electric Plc in Alausa, Lagos, after the distribution company (DisCo) cojmmitted to a binding undertaking to address persistent consumer rights violations.
The unsealing, which took place on Friday, follows an enforcement action that saw the facility locked for eight days.
The commission sealed the premises on December 11, 2025, after Ikeja Electric repeatedly ignored regulatory directives.

The enforcement action was triggered by Ikeja Electric’s refusal to comply with a Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) directive.
The order required the DisCo to unbundle a Maximum Demand (MD) account into 20 separate individual accounts, restore power to a customer who had been without an electricity supply for over two and a half years and provide separate metering and connections for 19 residential units and a service point.
Despite paying all required charges, the complainant was reportedly unable to utilise the residential units due to the prolonged lack of supply.
To regain access to its headquarters, Ikeja Electric has signed a formal commitment to resolve all consumer complaints referred to it by the FCCPC within specific, agreed-upon timelines.
The commission warned that any breach of this undertaking would result in “renewed and escalated enforcement action” under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018.
“Our responsibility is to ensure that consumers are treated fairly and that service providers comply with lawful decisions and directives. Enforcement is not an end in itself”, Tunji Bello, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the FCCPC.
Bello clarified that the unsealing reflects a “balanced approach” to market regulation.

He noted that while the commission will intervene decisively when consumer harm persists, it is also willing to de-escalate when “enforceable compliance” is secured.
The FCCPC reiterated that its primary duty remains protecting Nigerian consumers and upholding regulatory accountability across all sectors, including the power industry.
