The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has insisted that the ruling government will be unable to manipulate the forthcoming elections, claiming he is fully aware of their tactics.
Aregbesola made the declaration on Tuesday during the unveiling of the ADC in Osogbo, Osun State, a day he described as symbolic, marking exactly 15 years since his administration assumed office in the state.
Speaking to a gathering of supporters, Aregbesola highlighted the ADC’s role as a credible alternative capable of tackling Nigeria’s persistent challenges, including insecurity, maladministration, poverty, hunger, and the absence of good governance.
Today marks the 15th year we have been in Osun State, and our government was also sworn in at this very location. It was on a Friday, but today is the day of victory (Tuesday). God has shattered the present Government, and even the Government at the centre,” he stated.
Aregbesola confidently asserted that attempts to rig elections would fail, urging supporters to mobilise voters creatively and peacefully. He said, “They cannot rig the election, we know their tactics, go and start taking good care of old women who have reached menopause, clothe them in good clothes, and let them sit in tens on the election day at different polling units and leave the rest to us.”
He criticised the current administration for being selfish and for failing in governance, security, and economic management. “They have been disgraceful in all standards, in the economy, security, governance, and others. By August next year, we will certainly meet in Abere, and after August, we will take over the presidency,” he added.
Aregbesola emphasised that the ADC’s message resonates strongly across Osun State, particularly in Osogbo, the state capital. He highlighted the lasting impact of his previous tenure in the state, describing the public reception for the party as a testament to their achievements and legacies.
“Our achievements and legacies when we were here continue to speak for us. That is why we get the kind of reception we have anytime we come here, particularly Osogbo,” he said, underscoring the ADC’s growing influence and grassroots support ahead of national elections.
