The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened as the faction led by Samuel Anyanwu announced the immediate suspension of the party’s National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
The New Daily Prime earlier reported that National Working Committee (NWC) of the party suspended Anyanwu, the National Secretary, Kamaldeen Ajibade, the National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha, the Deputy Legal Adviser, and Umaru Bature, the National Organising Secretary.

PDP Spokesperson Debo Ologunagba stated that the decision to suspend Anyanwu and others was made during an emergency NWC meeting in Abuja.
He noted that the suspended officials were referred to the National Disciplinary Committee and would immediately cease to function in their respective roles.
The suspension was on a period of one month.
The Anyanwu-led NWC cited allegations including incompetence, misuse of party funds, and prioritising personal interests as reasons for the action.
The counter-suspension also targeted other high-ranking officials, notably the Ologunagba, and the Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja.
Anyanwu confirmed that all suspended officers would be forwarded to the party’s disciplinary committee for further proceedings.
