Governor Biodun Oyebanji has been officially ratified as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2026 election in Ekiti State. The decision was confirmed on Monday following a consensus affirmation exercise held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti.
The event, which drew party stalwarts, delegates and supporters from across the state, marked a significant step in the APC’s preparations for the forthcoming election. Governor Oyebanji’s endorsement as the consensus candidate is widely seen as a show of unity within the party and a vote of confidence in his leadership and performance since assuming office.
Speaking after his ratification, Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude to party members for their continued support and pledged to build on the achievements of his administration. He reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Ekiti State, promising to sustain policies and projects that have positively impacted the lives of residents.

“I am deeply humbled by this show of confidence. This affirmation is not just about me but about our collective resolve to keep Ekiti moving forward,” Oyebanji said. “Together, we shall consolidate on the progress we have made and continue to deliver good governance to our people.”
Party officials commended the peaceful and transparent nature of the consensus process, describing it as a reflection of the APC’s internal cohesion in Ekiti. The affirmation exercise was supervised by representatives of the party’s national leadership, alongside local government delegates and observers.
With his ratification, Governor Oyebanji is now set to lead the APC into the 2026 governorship election, where he will seek a second term in office. Political analysts say the consensus decision positions the ruling party strongly ahead of what is expected to be a competitive race.
