The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has revealed that the scheme provides services worth more than N14 billion to the Lagos State Government and its populace each year.
Nafiu made this disclosure during a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Government House in Marina, Lagos.

The DG quantified this minimum monetary value by highlighting the contributions of the over 44,000 Corps Members deployed across the state in various sectors.
This deployment includes 333 medical doctors, 306 pharmacists, 274 nurses, and 7,188 teachers, among other professionals.
Nafiu stated that Lagos remains the top destination for Corps Members, noting that the state’s relative security gives their parents confidence.
The purpose of his visit, he explained, was to acknowledge the state government’s support for the NYSC, reinforce their existing strong relationship, and assure the governor that the scheme will continue to deploy an adequate number of Corps Members to serve in the state.
He commended Sanwo-Olu for undertaking significant renovation work at the temporary camp in Iyana-Ipaja and acknowledged the ongoing construction of the 10,000-capacity Permanent Orientation Camp.
The DG expressed anticipation for the completion of the permanent site, which would eliminate the need to currently dislodge some Corps Members to neighbouring camps.
Furthermore, Nafiu requested that the NYSC Secretariat be provided with an ambulance and appealed for the governor to sustain the various areas of support that are critical to the state formation’s operations.
