Senator representing Kaduna South, Sunday Katung, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has dismissed rumours circulating on social media suggesting he has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Midat Joseph, the senator reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the PDP and its values.
The statement, made available to journalists in Kaduna, declared, “We wish to state unequivocally and for the record that, as of today, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung is a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”
It emphasised that the senator remains steadfast in upholding the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Kaduna South, who elected him under the PDP platform.
The rumours, which have sparked widespread speculation online, were described as baseless and a distraction from Katung’s primary focus of delivering effective representation and legislative excellence.
The statement highlighted his dedication to attracting developmental projects to Kaduna South Senatorial District, underscoring his commitment to improving the lives of his constituents.
Acknowledging the dynamic nature of Nigeria’s political landscape, the statement clarified that any decision of such significance as a defection would be communicated officially and transparently by the senator himself.
“Senator Katung would not engage in clandestine moves or allow speculation to overshadow his work,” it noted, urging the public to disregard the unfounded claims.
The senator’s office called on the media, constituents, and the general public to focus on his ongoing efforts to serve Kaduna South rather than entertaining unverified reports.
The statement concluded by reiterating Katung’s resolve to remain a loyal PDP member, dedicated to the party’s principles and the aspirations of his electorate.
