Former Minister of Information and Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana, has announced that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.
Speaking to journalists in Minna, Niger State, during the PDP state congress, Gana expressed confidence that Jonathan’s candidacy would lead to his return to Aso Rock, Nigeria’s presidential seat.
Gana highlighted that Nigerians, having experienced governance under two presidents since Jonathan’s tenure ended in 2015, are now eager for his come back.
“In 2015, Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another president ruled for eight years, and now another has ruled for two. Nigerians have seen the difference, and it’s clear,” he stated.
Gana emphasised that the public’s call for the former president reflects dissatisfaction with the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration and a desire to restore the PDP’s people-oriented governance.
“I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele will contest the 2027 presidential election as PDP candidate, and we should be prepared to vote him back as president,” Gana declared.
He described the PDP as a democratic, grassroots-oriented party, dismissing claims of internal crises and noting that past issues were resolved during a consultative conference in Abuja.
Gana urged Nigerians to support Jonathan, citing his experience and statesmanship, particularly his peaceful concession in 2015, which earned him global respect.
The PDP’s National Executive Committee has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to southern Nigeria, aligning with the former president’s Bayelsa roots.
