The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State has re-elected Usman Bello-Suru as its state chairman, with delegates from all 21 local government areas unanimously endorsing him and 38 other executives during a peaceful congress yesterday.
Supervised by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, the election was hailed as a testament to the party’s renewed unity and strength.
Former governorship candidate General Aminu Bande (rtd.) and Board of Trustees member Benjamin Dike praised the congress as a display of cohesion, positioning the PDP to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Mukhtar Lugga, Chairman of the State Delegates’ Congress, described the process as credible and orderly, reflecting the party’s commitment to internal democracy.
In his acceptance speech, Bello-Suru vowed to foster unity and lead the PDP to victory in 2027. “We shall work together as one family to reposition our party and ensure PDP regains its rightful place in Kebbi politics,” he declared.
Other re-elected executives include Hussaini Abdullahi-Raha (Deputy Chairman), Abubakar Bawa-Kalgo (Secretary), and Haruna Mai-Jega (Vice Chairman, Central).
Amid speculation of defection he reassured members that the PDP remains “one indivisible entity” and a formidable opposition across Kebbi’s 21 local government areas.
He urged supporters to remain calm while the leadership monitors the situation, dismissing rumours of internal discord.
Bande and Dike called on the new executives to promote inclusiveness and strengthen grassroots structures.
