The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State elected Adamu Bawa as its new state chairman during a congress held in Ilorin yesterday.
Bawa, the PDP’s candidate for Kwara North Senatorial District in the 2023 general election, emerged unopposed.
Other elected officials included AbdulRahman Kayode as State Secretary and Olusegun Adewara as Publicity Secretary.
Former Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki praised the party members for their maturity and commitment to internal democracy.
“The PDP has once again shown that it provides a level playing field and prioritises the will of the people,” Saraki stated.
He contrasted the peaceful congress with other parties, noting, “In other parties’ congresses, you may need security due to their lack of coordination, often resulting in chaos.
The maturity displayed in Kwara reflects the national character of our great party.”
The immediate past state chairman, Babatunde Mohammed, affirmed the PDP’s readiness to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
“As far as the Kwara PDP is concerned, we are one big family, well prepared for the task ahead. We are firmly on the ground and ready to challenge the APC as the main opposition,” he declared.
In his acceptance speech, Bawa pledged to collaborate with fellow executives and stakeholders to reposition the PDP for success.
“We are committed to the development of the party at both state and national levels. We will work together to regain power in Kwara State in 2027,” he said.
