Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, September 22, 2025, for a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The visit marks Fubara’s first official trip to the State House since his reinstatement as governor on September 18, following a six-month emergency rule in Rivers State.
Fubara arrived alone at approximately 6:20 p.m. and proceeded directly to the President’s office.
The emergency rule, declared by Tinubu on March 18, 2025, had suspended Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly due to political unrest stemming from a feud with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The crisis, which involved impeachment threats and violent clashes, led to the appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok-Étè Ibas (retd.) as sole administrator until the suspension was lifted.
While the specific purpose of Fubara’s visit was not disclosed, it is believed to be connected to his reinstatement and efforts to stabilize Rivers State.
In a statewide broadcast after resuming office, Fubara expressed gratitude to Tinubu for intervening in the crisis, stating he remained “eternally grateful.”
He also acknowledged resolving differences with Wike, describing him as “our leader.”
The visit follows Fubara’s return to Port Harcourt on September 19, where he was warmly received by supporters.
On Monday, he hosted members of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Board, urging them to optimize the Port Harcourt and Onne Ports to boost economic activity and job creation in Rivers State.
Fubara’s meeting with Tinubu comes amid ongoing political realignments as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.
